Banshee is an open source alternative to Rhythmbox which seamlessly integrates with the GNOME desktop and offers some very interesting features.

Besides serving as audio and video player, is able to manage podcasts and synchronize devices running Android and iPods.

Installation and first start

For those who use a recent version of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS how to install the program, simply click on apt: / / banshees. Alternatively you can manually add the repositories for your version in consultation with the PPA for Banshee Team on launchpad.

In the first case opens the Run Application . Let the selected application apturl and press OK to go ...

... and the next press Install .

Once we start the installation program from Applications> Sound & Video> Banshee Media Player .

The first thing to do is upgrade our media collection. To do this simply click at the top of Tools> Rescan the disco . Thus the folder will be scanned music and all content will be cataloged.

View

The dialog is well organized and Banshee base is very similar to Rhythmbox. In the upper left is the green button play , we find in the window with links to our resources and multimedia at the top right button for Full Screen mode and 'icon volume .

When we listen to the music, the great central window shows information on the album and the possible cover, while in the box below, called Context Pane, Banshee uses the vast database of artists like Last.fm to advise us and provide us with some statistics of listening the album itself. On the right side, in addition, we also find the famous W Wikipedia. Clicking it will automatically show you the information about the artist that we are listening.

You can also add other links as well as Last.fm and Wikipedia Edit menu> Preferences> Extensions ...

... such as the one on YouTube.

When we see a video, however, that window will be our screen.
