Remove arrows on shortcuts in Windows 7 (the right way)

After a simple change to the registry here is that Windows 7 can no longer be "fin" elements in the Superbar. As the change is simple, it is also easy to solve the problem. And now so you can get links without arrows but still locked on the bar.

Remove arrows on shortcuts in Windows 7 (the right way)

The batch was made earlier rather important limitations: it could not restore the values and barely worked IsShortcut variations in 64-bit Windows. Therefore, I packed a small utility in VB.NET that performs all the tasks, and more.

Personally, I always hated the white arrows that Windows automatically inserts in links. They are obviously designed with the aim of allowing the user to see if the icon is a shortcut, or a real application.

However, my opinion remains unchanged: some programs have beautiful icons and see them covered by the little arrow I do not like Windows.

In Windows XP and Windows Vista, you could accomplish the task with ease and as if by magic, the next time that all the icons seen here in full.

To tell the truth, even in Windows 7, the arrows disappear by modifying the registry, but a new problem arises: the pin of the elements in the Superbar (Taskbar) does not want more to do with work.

But why?

In fact, the values on which it acts IsShortcut usually indicate that the system is considered the icon link type, and therefore should be treated as such. Removing the registry key, Windows will consider all the icons as non-links, though it continues to treat them as such in many ways.

This is in clear conflict with the Windows 7 Superbar, which allows only connections of fins.

The situation is somewhat convoluted, so we will make clear in this article to resolve the issue.

Discovering ANDY'S Arrows Killer

After downloading the archive from the Downloads tab, and checked it out, we can start our application and we will be greeted with an interface like this.

As above, does not work for me the links!

No problem, but before we follow these steps carefully. Within the tab marked Default , there is a button for Enable . In this case, the two values will be recreated IsShortcut where missing, and the arrow is re-inserted by default. Then, if we want, we can proceed with the removal or customization.

I do not want arrows! Take me out of everything!

Unlike before, simply click on the Enable button within the panel None . Will be copied to the Windows directory an image transparent, which will be referenced in the registry.

Try the custom image

If you want a personal touch to our computers, we can insert a custom image. Select it by pressing Browse between our icons (ICO will in fact be the only acceptable formats). I recommend that you click File size less than or equal to 30x30 pixels to avoid damaging the aesthetic decorations too big. Once selected, you can click its button enabled to set the changes (in the panel Custom ).

At the end

After applying any of the settings, the program will prompt the user to disconnect the changes are applied to the next authentication. If you answer positively, you will be arrested on the spot, so any unsaved work is lost.

End

At this point, we have concluded. As you can see, the arrows from shortcuts have disappeared ...
