Disconnect the computer's local network with NetCut

Thank NetCut we can see all the computers connected to our local network, with the ability to disconnect from the chair without moving.

The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is a protocol used in local area networks (LANs).

When a computer needs to send a packet to another machine on the same local network, the packet's destination is specified using the famous "IP address", which often speaks in relation to the Internet.

But the IP address alone is not enough: inside local networks, the sender must also indicate, among other routing coordinates, the MAC address (Media Access Control) machine ( more correctly "network adapter") receiver.

The duty of ARP is to translate ("fix", in fact) the MAC address from the IP address of the recipient.

Since no checks are made of any kind to verify that the IP that sent the request actually corresponds to the computer that has that address, the device forwards the request (UHO switch or hub, in practice) that it trusts comes from the legitimate owner of the IP camera.

This, as one can easily imagine, the requirements for disposable and non-negligible certain vulnerabilities in the protocol.

Since it is very easy to spoof the IP of a computer connected to the local network, in practice it is possible to impersonate another machine, or even the switch / hub itself.

An attacker (or a network administrator) could then, if connected to the correct local network, impersonating the switch / hub and break the connection of a computer connected to the same network.

I will not go further into detail, and I refer you to this excellent Italian report if you are interested and wish to learn.

You have created several software that can exploit the weaknesses of the protocol. In this article we will discuss NetCut, we will soon see where download and how to use it.

It must inform you that MegaLab.it is not responsible for the use of this software could do. Each proposed indication is designed to legitimate uses, such as a network administrator who needs to rule out "on the fly" from a computer that controls the local network or similar maintenance scenarios.

The software

As I said, NetCut is software whose purpose is to cut off a computer connected to a local network, all through another system connected to the same network.

The program can be downloaded from this page at no cost.

We proceed to install, requiring no special settings. Ignore any messages from the antivirus, Avira AntiVir found a file as a potential security risk, but that does not mean that it is malware.

At the end of the installation process will be launched NetCut.

The use of the application is very simple. In the list on the left lists all the devices connected to the LAN, the gateway and to the right.

Just select a computer listed on the left and click Cut Off to disconnect it.

The icon of the selected machine will be red and trying to communicate with the outside world blocked from your computer, the result will be unreachable pages and table failed.

To hang up the PC to the Internet, simply select it and click again Resume .

If we have more than one network adapter connected (for example, an Ethernet and wireless) and wanted to change network adapter, just click Choose Netcard , select the item in question and click Ok .

In a network of multiple machines, we can use the Find function to quickly find a computer connected to the network by specifying the local IP address.

Finally, convenient functionality Print Table , through which the display of the connected systems and the details become well-formatted for saving or printing.
