Block opening of programs with AppLocker

With AppLocker, a handy freeware compatible with all versions of Windows, we can prevent the execution of some unwanted applications such as messaging programs, web browsers, etc. to be disagreeable in the business environment (particularly apprehensive or have parents). No password, just a list of executables.

AppLocker is a freeware software that allows you to block the start of any program to all users who do not have system administrator privileges.
This is useful especially for small companies who want to prevent the use of any programs, but also more apprehensive parents who want to lock the browser to prevent their children the "surprises" on the web.
The program is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 and Windows Vista. Compatibility with Windows 7 is not specified but, however, Microsoft's latest operating system offers the same name and similar functionality already built.

To download the program click here. It will download a ZIP archive containing two files: the setup of the software and its user manual, in English.
You start the installation, and little ingenuity, install only the user who has administrator privileges, so you can be the only lock and unlock applications.

The program

Start the program and you will notice that when you first start, the interface will look like this.

Operation

You need to start with AppLocker administrator (Administrator) in order to lock or unlock the software. If an ordinary user tries to access it, you receive an error message.
By default, the program already offers a list of predefined applications. To lock one of these software, check the list and then click Save .
You can also add to the list all the programs you want, let's see how.
Click Configure and it will open the following window.
In the field Caption enter the generic name that you want to appear on the list (eg VLC ), while in the field Executable File Name you have to write file name to start the program (usually with the extension. exe), in our case vlc.exe . Finally, click Add .
To delete an item, select it and click Delete to delete them all click on Delete All .
Click OK and return to the previous window. Now tick list all the programs you want to block. Finally, click Save and Close to close the program.
To unlock an item, uncheck and click Save to unlock them all on Unlock All .
Be careful to use the Unlock All , as will erase the entire list of applications, even the default.

The error message

Now if you try to open one of the programs sprung up, you see the following error message.

Conclusion

Great software, free and lightweight with excellent features. It occupies 2.42 MB on the hard drive and also consumption of RAM is very small.
